Importance of Dental Health

Our teeth and gums should be free from any infection and it must be healthy and function properly because if our dental health is not properly taken care of, it will cause dental complications, tooth loss, inflammation of gums and bad breath. Dental problems such as tooth decay are the common disorder that affects our teeth and the leading reason controlling the risk of dental disorder are exposure to fluoride, oral hygiene and consumption of cariogenic foods. Another factor that also affect our teeth to decay is aging. It is a normal scenario when we reach our elderly age because our tooth enamel is lost due to acid exposure and contact, other than those formed by plaque.

Our dental health is very important to our overall well-being and health. Oral hygiene should be treated and well managed because if we lose the ability to chew and swallow the food we eat, we are denied of nutrients we should have taken from the food we eat and apart from nutritional value, having poor dental health can unpleasantly affect our communication and self-worth. Dental disorder can carry out social and financial afflictions as treatment is very expensive as well as both adults and children will miss the time for schooling and absences from the job because of dental discomfort.

If people have poor oral health, problem may take place that includes:

  • Oral and facial pain – according to experts, the pain is largely caused by the infection of the gums which support the teeth and can be a factor of losing your tooth. The early stage of the disease of the gum such as gingivitis affects many of the people that don’t regularly and properly have oral care.
  • Digestion problems – digestion starts with chemical and physical procedure in the mouth, and if not well taken care of, intestinal failure may happen, another is irritable bowel pattern and other digestive problems and disorder.
  • Problem with the heart and other organs of the body.

These problems can be avoided if you have practiced good oral hygiene by brushing your teeth two to three times a day with toothpaste that have fluoride, by flossing to remove the plaque where places brush can’t reach, eat a healthy diet to prevent gum disease, avoiding smoke or cigarettes which may affect the gums and will start to spread bacteria and lastly see your dentist and regular dental checkup to detect early sign of periodontal disease.
